I just watched a two hour documentary over the weekend on invasive species in FL (which included the Tampa Bay area) and these lizards was one of the species mentioned.

Most of the animals, once caught, are humanely euthanized which is sad (but understandable). Not the animals fault that certain humans are irresponsible importing these for pets, some of which are dumped when they're no longer wanted.

When I first moved here in the 80s, I bought a book about reptiles and amphibians so I wouldn't be so skittish around them. Tegus are cool-looking animals in print, but I don't want to encounter one of them slithering around untethered.

It says they eat snails... Let them do battle with those giant African snails.
