I agree with the others, no problem in "winter" here in FL regardless what you use.

Bahia goes dormant in the winter. St. Augustine stays green. The problem with St. Augustine is it requires frequent watering throughout its life.
The 3/4 of yard that has grass is St. Augustine so that's what Ill use. Guess Ill just have to water a lot this winter.

It would be silly not to use the same grass. Yes, water frequently. I had St. Augustine in Orlando. I watered 3 x a week. It was a beautiful lawn.

Even watered, our grass always gets brown in the winter. I'd wait.

It always seemed to be about 6 degrees warmer on average here than in St. Augustine during the winter, but I would still recommend waiting until Spring. When I lived in St Augustine I laid down zoysia in late Fall 2011 and the grass just never seemed to thrive from there on to when we sold the house this past June. I just dont think it had enough time to get the roots deep enough by the time it went dormant. I wouldn't chance it and would just wait until Spring unless your HOA is giving you too much grief.

Our St. Augustine is green all year long. Only have to water in the dry season, as the dry season tends to be dry.
