If you were offered an out of state job but do not financially have the funds to move and REALLY want the job how would you handle it? The job never mentioned any relocation funds.

It depends on the position. If it is an entry level, they may not care to fund it. If it is a mid- to senior level they will probably cover you part of it. Ask and see what you get. You have got nothing to lose by asking. Not mentioning it doesn't mean they won't cover.

If you can't get covered by the job relo, put your stuff in a storage and come and save to bring it later, if you have too. You probably don't need all the stuff you accumulate over the years. Time to give it a nice look and see if you really need it.

Remember employers spend money to go through the hiring process and most don't want to go through again. So, you have shot in getting something, if you ask.

Good luck!

I have some saved but not nearly as much as I would need to actually "move" plus rent/util until i get the first check. I guess it wouldnt hurt to ask.

Would it be possible to pack your stuff and move it to a storage unit/friend's garage, rent a furnished room, fly up there with a suitcase full of the bare necessities for the first few weeks of the job, then come back after you've gotten a few paychecks and collect your things?

I've done that before.
