Looking at a 3/2 small home, 1960s. The taxes are really low (for current owner)... Not sure I'd live there full time, but how does one calculate what my property tax might be on this. List price is at 145k.

thank you all

Go to: Pinellas County Property Appraiser and enter address. Look for: "Est Taxes w/o Cap or Exemptions" with red lettered disclaimer. This should give you an idea of your first year taxes. If you claim homestead your taxes can be reduced in subsequent years.

Thanks Frank. I did this ... a df bought a property last year and the taxes were reasonable on it. sh was paying the balance of the prior owner rate ( i assume). now 11 months later, i guess the town has appraised, and it has increased by $1500 already.

Just wondering if there is a general rule of thumb and estimation possibly due to purchase price. ?

If you are taking the homestead exemption, take the new sales price, subtract $50k, and multiply by 2.5%.

If you are not taking the homestead exemption, multiply the new sales price by 2.5%.
