Hello,
I'm looking to relocate to the Tampa area. I'm looking for a house with at least 1/4 acre with large mature trees within approximately 40 minutes of Univ of South Florida. Price under $240,000. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You could definitely find something in Temple Terrace or even Brandon but I avoid those places like the plague. All the suburban areas that have new housing developments will not really offer you shade. Their trees are way to new for that. You will find this to be pretty true for the general 'burb areas like Brandon, Riverview, Valrico, New Tampa...If you don't mind being in a more "country" setting, you may want to try Plant City.

if the trees and the acreage are your only criteria then at 40min from USF,then on the rural side you can go as far up as dade city, Zephyrhills, Thonotosassa, Land o lakes, you would get a lot of bang for your buck in terms of acreage anyway, not much in amenities other than nature.

Sounds like my place in St. Pete but you'd need a pretty stiff tail wind to make it to USF Tampa in 40 minutes. But you could make it to USF St. Pete in 15.

I think you could find a place to meet your requirements in the older sections of Carrollwood, Lake Magdalene or Forest Hills. Although my home is not for sale, it fits your criteria. The whole area has mature trees, I'm on 1/3 of an acre and about 20 minutes from USF. I bought for just under $200K, although that was 4 years ago and the house needed a little updating. Most of Carrollwood would fit your first two criteria (mature trees, within 40 minutes of USF) - you'd just need to look a little for the 1/4 acre in your budget. I imagine if one home in the area fits the criteria, others would as well.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I also want to be within 30-40 minutes of the beach. The closer to Tampa the better. Carrollwood sounds very good. Plant city is out. I hate it there. thanks to everyone who posted.

Yes - Forest Hills is just East of Old / Original Carrollwood.
