What the _____ is the matter with these people? There really needs to be better screening for those who legally own firearms and harsher punishments for those that own them illegally.

Man shot, killed during argument in downtown St. Petersburg

Riverview man charged with shooting outside Waffle House

Armed carjacking in Lealman caught on tape

Plant City man arrested for shots fired during road rage incident

Also, the HD shooting the other day.

When you have a second amendment guaranteeing every one the right to have a gun many of those with guns are going to be unstable individuals who will use guns to solve their perceived problems.
With estimates of 300 million guns in the country and slack laws about who owns them or easy access to buying them and stand your ground type laws death by gun toting individuals will be a common occurrence in the USA,get used to it ,its the way it is..

Funny thing that Canada is loaded with guns, mostly hunting rifles. However, we don't see their firearms used in anti social ways. I cant remember the last time I head about a mass shooting in Canada, in fact, I can't remember ever hearing about one. Yet there are plenty of guns there.

It is amazing in the difference in the two societies which are so closely geographically related but so far apart in their behavior.

There are too many idiots around, period. Whether they have guns, cars, or children - there are too many out there who don't behave responsibly.

Perhaps a bit simplistic but in the Canadian lifestyle it seems that people haven't checked out of "parenting" like many have here in the US where the perception of responsibility (by actual parents) seems to have fallen on teachers. Self control isn't hereditary, it's a behavior learned (or not) at home.

And yet Chicago has had extremely tough gun laws and the gun violence there dwarfs Tampa's. Wanna switch guns laws and the associated violence with them? Have you seen the thugs there killing each other? You think they all have those guns legally?

This is true, but when an idiot has a gun in their possession there is too much risk of something bad happening. Take the punk in Plant City who was waiting to ambush the driver that had an altercation with his father or the POS who emptied his gun into a car with two unarmed girls.

There seems to be a lot of folks around here with anger issues and a gun is the last thing they should have. It would make sense to try and screen these people when they try to buy a gun. Not sure how that would work though.

I blame the legal system. Catch these idiots and put a round in their Ass not someone else's and you'll see the trouble go away.

Canadians are civilized people.

Gun politics in Canada
In Canada, although citizens do not have a constitutional right to bear arms, gun ownership is allowed, regulated and many models of firearms are not available or are prohibited.[7] Certain models are classified as prohibited firearms, as defined by the Firearms Act. Possession of a restricted firearm requires a Restricted Possession and Acquisition License or RPAL.[8] An RPAL may be obtained at the same time as, or subsequent to, a PAL with additional testing and scrutiny by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. An Authorization to Transport allows RPAL holders to transport their restricted firearms directly to and from gun ranges and gunsmiths or to a change of address.[9]
Under certain circumstances, an Authorization to Carry may be issued, allowing one to carry a loaded restricted firearm on their person;[10] however, these permits are rarely acquired by ordinary citizens. In 2002, only 6172 permits were issued across the entire country and over 94% were related to armoured vehicle protection and related services.[11]
