I was tempted to drive down to Miami last season for the series down there (to see the new stadium)....but didn't do it.
I'd have to give you a similar assessment of Marlins Park -- visit it once and the novelty wears off. It's not particularly intimate for a ballpark that seats only 37,000, and it's a bit tacky and garish with the nightclub behind the left-field wall and the over-the-top color schemes (although unlike a lot of people, I'm OK with the home-run sculpture; as a White Sox fan, I grew up in the '60s with Bill Veeck's original exploding scoreboard at old Comiskey, which was so outlandish for its time that the other American League owners actually tried to ban after it was installed, so I've always gotten a kick out of wacky home-run celebrations). And as for the way the park was financed -- we could do a whole thread on that alone. But it's air-conditioned and there are never rainouts or delays. People who have seen games there with the roof open have told me it's a much better experience than when the roof is closed. But the roof is open only about 10 times a year, when the temperature is below 80 and there's no threat of rain; every game from roughly May 15-Sept. 15 is indoors.

Psst.....don't tell the ASPCA or Greenpeace, or PETA.....

A Ray got help from a dolphin with a marriage proposal this weekend as Alex Cobb popped the question to girlfriend Kelly Reynolds at Discovery Cove.

Ice cream boy gone - very likeable player. Sorry to see him go.

BREAKING: #Rays have traded Lobaton, and 2 others (likely minor leaguers), to #Nats for RHP Nate Karns.

I saw there were trade rumors but hoping it wasn't going to happen. To sum it up...bummer!

Tickets for home games are not on sale yet.

The Rays ticket operations is in shambles this year. They're way behind schedule, have lost their best sales staff, and are losing season ticket holders left and right. Pretty poor timing as right now the Rays have the best roster in franchise history (on paper in February).

when the team draws 12-18k/game, there's no big rush to get the single tickets out for sale - think they're pushing the Flex and partial season tickets now. If you need to buy tickets months in advance, Stubhub is the place to go.

Thanks guys. I think I'll wait it out, especially since I don't have firm plans yet anyway. One of my pet peeves, though, are the ridiculously inflated prices you have to pay through ticket agencies.

When it was announced that Jeter would retire at the end of the year, and given the Yankees' last regular season game is against Boston, I figured what the heck, he's always been a respectable player, it would be nice to see what I'm sure will be a memorable tribute given to him at Fenway. I waited 'til I got home from work and - of course - no tickets available. all the leaches scoffed 'em up first. I also read an article that the lowest priced ticket for the last game in NY was priced at $26. As soon as his retirement was announced, it jumped to $280. that's just gross.

Stubhub often has tickets for sale for Rays games at half the price. $10 can be easily had when non-NYY, non-Boston teams are in town. The Rays season ticket holders use Stubhub to unload their tickets when they aren't going to be used. But they are also inflated until a day or so before gametime, when the sellers get desperate. Stubhub allows the seller to decrease their asking price over the course of several days before the event.

Bucfan, thanks for clarifying. I didn't realize I could get any tickets at cost on there.

No Stubhub seller has their tickets yet. Not even season ticket holders (and their seats are not guaranteed at this point). The prices for Rays home games are all well above face value now. Prices are below face value usually just in the final few hours before game time.
