Hello,

Are there any cool areas of Tampa which meet some or all of this criteria?

-walkable/bikeable to shops or restaurants
-local businesses
-arts, culture
-more progressive politically
-health food stores

Thanks!

Hyde Park. But I think it leans more right due to the military connections.

You may have more luck in the downtown St. Pete area. They are more liberal, Tampa is more conservative.

Pinelas Couty is most conservative, but not DT St Pete- where all the old peep's kids go!

I didn't read much of your reply.

Fact is, this isn't a political forum this is a thread on Tampa. If you want to banter your hate vs another persons hate why don't you post these rants there?

Hijacking a person post about Tampa for political reasons is not very respectful of the OP.

If you are limiting yourself to Tampa, the only walkable/bikable areas are probably Hyde Park/South Howard, Harbour Island and possibly Channelside. If you are attempting to live in any of these places without a car entirely, you will be miserable.

If you expand your search, there are a number of neighborhoods in St. Pete/Gulfport that would meet your criteria.

Why do Tampa residents pretend that "Tampa" is not shorthand for "the Tampa Bay area"? This is a persistent theme in this forum.

If you were from "The Tampa Bay area", you would understand.

The Soho District OP.

Soho (Tampa) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I lived in this neighborhood for six of the eight years I have lived in Tampa. I value a lot of the things you do in a neighborhood and this is the only one I would like to live in.

In Tampa I would say Tampa Heights / Seminole Heights. Tampa Heights is very central to Downtown, Ybor, Channelside, and Seminole Heights. The "Heights" have come along way in recent years & is getting better. Lots of small independent Restraunts, shops, & Craft Beer establishments as well as indie flea markets & community gardens. Lots of effort being done to make more bike-able & walk-able. The Tampa "River Walk" was also just completed recently & starts in Tampa Heights & wraps around the entire downtown riverfront down to Channelside. This alone has made the area a great destination. Living in the area, we regularly ride/walk downtown to free concerts, movies at Tampa Theatre, eat, drink, museum, sporting events, conventions, you name it. A weekend doesn't pass that doesn't include walking or biking to grab a bite & a beer somewhere in our area. All these areas are also way more affordable than South Tampa / Hyde park. Also (in my opinion) way more "real". Hyde Park has kindof a snooty preppy vibe (sorry to generalize), which I'm not into. Tampa Heights / Seminole Heights has way more of an eclectic, artsy, hipster, progressive vibe that is great. Hopefully it doesn't get spoiled too quickly as these areas continue to become more gentrified.

I'm sure, three years later, they've found what they were looking for.

But LOL to the comment about St. Pete being more liberal.
