Hi everyone,

Looking for tips, advice or just any kind of information. We are from from San Diego to the Tampa area in 8 weeks. Flying out to Tampa in 4 weeks to check out apartments and locations.

We love living in San Diego but the cost of living is out crazy. We want some place that is warm with great beaches and laid back. We live in a safe awesome section of San Diego that is 5 mins of downtown.

Came someone please give me advice of good places to look for apartments but it not too expensive. We want to stay below $1000.00. We also have a dog that we will be out walking so we want a safe neighborhood.

Also what kind of activities are there to do? What you think of the cost of living?

Thank you any advice would be great.

Check out St Petersburg which has a similar laidback coastal vibe. There are some great neighborhoods to check out like Kenwood, Allendale-Five Points and Crescent Heights where you can score a rental house in that price point. If you're stuck on apartments the Gateway/Gandy area on the extreme NE side is a good area to check out and convenient to both downtown Tampa and downtown St Pete. There are a lot of things to do in St Pete and the cost of living in tandem is a pretty good deal I think.

Surprising St Pete

where will you be working - you're going to hate to commute across bridges and should avoid cross town commutes if possible

Actually a Gandy/Gateway commute to downtown Tampa or the airport area is still better than most mainland commutes.

Not sure yet where I will be working. Flying out for interviews in a few weeks. Hopefully the traffic is nothing like CA traffic.

Better spend a week here in the summer first. You will be in for a shock.

What you think of the cost of living?
Almost anywhere in the US is cheaper than CA, so you will probably find the cost of living much more comfortable in FL

FL seems to be much more dog friendly than where I come from in the north
not sure it's as dog friendly as CA though

I agree with the other poster, if you haven't experienced summer here you are in for a big surprise.
If there was no AC, there's no way people would be flocking to FL
