Wow thank you so much before I committed to buying a home, so around Bradenton would be doable? How often does that sky bridge close due to wind etc? I know it never closes due to snow lol.

It closes for high winds maybe three Times a year if that, and if you go around then it's probably an hour drive through the crosstown and i75 so it's not like you are stuck in st Petersburg. Your main hurdle is if Bradenton fits what you want for housing.

Agreed, we live in south Manatee, not even up in Bradenton and can get to downtown St. Pete in about 30 minutes or less. Traffic is never bad on the bridge, but as pointed out it is possible it can close in bad weather or an accident. It's a pretty easy commute, actually, loads of people do it. Definitely would NOT commute from new Tampa, however.

Mostly when wind speeds top 50 mph - for tropical storms, for instance. Can hit once or so a year - if you google search Skyway Bridge closure you'll get an idea how often the bridge has been closed in the past.

Ok so if I get an offer then Bradenton is good, any one have thoughts on palmetto and also Brandon? Some nice houses there for about 210k. Want to see what cost for insurance, etc would be. We are 40 something couple, no kids...looking for a safe neighborhood as well, I am familiar with the Florida lifestyle. Went to college down there.

As to not start a new thread, there is a chance I could get a position for Pinellas Co working at the annex building at the courthouse in Clearwater, so from what I gather reading the posts here I can kiss the idea of driving to there from Wesley Chapel goodbye.

If you don't mind driving about an hour each way. You'd be better off in Oldsmar, Dunedin, Tarpon Springs.
