I'm not sure I understand the difference between these two often mentioned beaches. Are they close to eachother? I'm assuming they are both across the sunshine skyway bridge...a drive from Dunedin where we are staying.

I'm considering adding it to the list though. So, thoughts/votes?

Google Maps link to all 3 locations

The beaches at Siesta Key are gorgeous, but it would be quite a drive considering that you are staying VERY close to some excellent beaches like Clearwater.

They aren't that close to each other, and I'm not sure I understand what you mean by you don't know the difference... they are two different beaches.

I personally like Anna Maria better, is more laid back and less crowded. Siesta key is more like what you think when you think of a pristine beach, clear water, white sand, a really wide beach. Anna Maria you can park 50 ft from the water, there are trees, the beach is really narrow maybe 20 ft of sand, the water is not as clear. You should do both but Anna Maria is better IMO.

Thanks! Yes, I realize Clearwater is closer- in fact will be visiting Honeymoon Island/3 Rooker/Caladesi/Indian Rocks/Ft. De Soto/Pass-a-grill and if time St Pete...but see I guess I'm just greedy lol.

We'll go by Clearwater one evening after beach time at Indian Rocks probably to see the 'touristy' beach area. We prefer remote/pretty-but yeah in thinking about that distance, I guess maybe another trip-just wanted to hit some different spots.

Honestly-the most beautiful place I've been is 3 Rooker bar- which we got to by the pontoon we rented. The wildlife-the live shells/sand dollars..and then of course magnificent Ft. De Soto-

Anna Maria sounds interesting and different sounding from regular beaches-they all have their own allure I guess huh?

Before you go to either, have you been to Caladesi Island State Park? You'd have to go to Honeymoon Island State Park first, then take the ferry over to Caladesi Island. (Depending on where you are in Dunedin, it would be a 10-15 minute drive to Honeymoon Island). The only way to get on Caladesi Island is by boat or ferry, so it's one of the quieter, secluded public parks in Florida. I highly recommend.

Thanks Anna, yes we are actually on the causeway and we get a permit included in our rental to HI. We also rented the pontoon 2 different days- went 1st time to 3 Rooker and 2nd time to Caladesi-beautiful indeed!!

Only thing was it was quite a hike w/bags/cooler/umbrellas from boat docking to actual beach- and it was a little tough when leaving around 5ish as the tide was changing and suddenly we found ourselves several times in VERY shallow water.

I love those two beaches....if my guy and I ever tie the knot (hey its tough with step situations ha) it'll be Caladesi or HI

Between the two, Siesta Key Beach was pretty crowded when my BF and I went. Anna Maria is way quieter and relaxing, especially if you go to the beach near the Sandbar Restaurant, Sandbar Waterfront Restaurant.
