I have never been but would like to take my kids. Is this normally a family friendly environment or are the crowds not geared for little kids?

I used to live in North Carolina and the Dixie Fair was a big deal but once it got past 6pm families cleared out because it would be wall to wall thugs and really an intimidating environment for a family. Is it the same here?

I just noticed this last night online and was going to ask how this fair is. Thanks for posing the question.

Lot of violence on that Friday. Seems they let the schools out, no admission fee, turns into "wilding". I would not take the kids on a "school's out" day.

Seems like a lot of bad news coming out of the Fair over the last couple of days - fights, teen was ejected then run over when crossing nearby interstate, etc etc etc. What's the big deal about a fair anyway? Seen one, seen them all.

1. hire a bunch of police for that day.
2. beat anyone engaging in riotous activity with batons.
3. problem solved.

Bring your own gun to protect yourself.........out wait. Never mind. Just accept whatever beating they want to give you.

PS - I do not own a gun and never will, but I believe in the rights of sane people to own them after a background check and waiting period.

I went for my very first time this Sunday. Yes it is family friendly. I have always heard that student day is the worst day to go and the events that happened on Friday seem to confirm that. I have also heard that armband days are very busy as well.

I thought the fair was okay. It is very, very, very centered around food and booths in the expo hall that try to sell you items. I was disappointed on the lack of agriculture in comparison to all the food and retail booths.

We did go to the circus show. It is free and I highly recommend it. Get in line about 45 minutes before show time. It is a whole circus show with many acts (8 I think) and lasts 60 minutes. I was impresses, especially considering I thought is was only going to be a 20 - 30 minute show with just a couple acts.

Juicy's big 18 wheeler BBQ truck looked like the best food to me. Their sausage looked amzing and their ginormous corn dogs looked delicious. Unfortunately I found this place on my way out the door. It's easy to find, look for the smoke.

Best deals on drink are TIKI Teas stands. 20oz Tea for 75 cents... or was it a buck? Anyhow... hard to beat.
