Hi, my family has an opportunity to vacation this summer in either Crystal Beach or Dunedin (near northwest end of Hammock Park). I originally wanted to stay in Dunedin because with small kids we could have places to walk to instead of piling everyone in the car. But is northwest Hammock Park area a nice one and is it too far to walk to downtown? Is the park safe for walking around at night?

I can't help you since I don't know of Crystal Beach area-I'm a TPA resident wannabe

But let me tell you, last year we stayed in Dunedin...I can't say enough about it. LOVED it. Away from the 'tourist' area but close enough to everything.

They have lots of condos for rent on VRBO, with kayaks, bikes, beach toys, some with boat tours, etc... the downtown area is really charming, do NOT miss Strachan's Ice cream.

It's close to Honeymoon Island, you can take the ferry to Caladesi. Are you guys renting a car?

Ozona Blue is a great place for lunch (and has a swimming pool for the kids) on the marina, Cafe Alfresco is a great brunch place downtown Dunedin- also someone recommended Wren's Nest to pick-up doughnuts-sadly last time we got there too late in the morning. It's right by the bike trails and close to everything. Loved it, will not dissapoint.
