Wow, that's just sad. But thanks for posting, because it's something to be aware of. We've had to deal with black widow spider nests twice since moving to the area. They do seem to like old wood.

On a related note, don't mess around with insect bites that refuse to heal. See the doc ASAP. Especially if it's a red ant bite. Trust me on this.

Spider bite didn't kill him, it made him a little sick. His choice not to have it treated killed him.

We found a black widow spider's nest and eggs in back of the sensor for the garage door opener. I never would have noticed it but I went to clean it and saw the spider and about 6 eggs. They might have gotten in the car if they hatched--it really freaked me out. When the Banko guy was here servicing the door, he said that he finds them all the time in that area of garages.

They do seem to like garages, even carport areas. It's interesting too how the eggs are all spiky on the surface.
