Hi all- I will be moving to Tampa this summer and I am looking to settle in the South Tampa area. I have a list of some apartments/condos that I plan to check out when I visit later this spring (that area closer to "the action" aka near Bayshore Blvd. in the Hyde Park/Palma Ceia area), but I am also curious about smaller single family, ranch-style homes in the neighborhoods north of Gandy and west of Mabry--

I have not seem many of these for rent on CL or other online sources and I have heard that this is because they rent very quickly and the owners don't have to bother making online ads. Rather, they just put a sign in the yard. Is that usually the case? Will my best bet be to just drive around those neighborhoods when I visit? If so, do you think I will be able to find any smaller 2bdr/1ba rental houses in those neighborhoods for $900-$1,100? The few I've seen online so far have been $1,250 up to $3k, but the sample size of what I have found is very small.

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

I'd avoid Craig's List but if you are able to decipher/filter out scams rather quickly and effortlessly then it's an okay source. I stick to Zillow, Trulia, and My Florida MLS for now. We've also got an agent looking for us. The agent has so far sent us a variety of rentals with 2 and 3 brs in the $900-1300 range in the Tampa area the list was the agent gave us was alot more expansive than I was expecting esp for our budget; we gave the agent a max budget of $1100 but are considering raising it to $1200. Even though we are looking in the suburbs primarily, the agent has expanded the search to include the city.

Thanks for the reply and the info., MD. That sounds promising. I think that list will narrow when I include only South Tampa in my search, but I am not sure by how much. Maybe I should look into getting an agent when the time gets closer. Good luck with your search!

RentTheBay.com

Owner of this company (Mike) started small and has many properties now. Was my landlord for almost 3 years and was the best rental experience I've ever had.
