Hello everyone,

I have a potential good job opportunity that would be located in St Pete, and I am researching the areas to determine if it is somewhere I would like to relocate to. The weather is certainly a plus compared to the snow and cold of the northeast all winter.

What I would like to know more about is the St Pete area. Which neighborhoods are good, or conversely which are not bad and what kind of commute times there are into St Pete. I am single, without children so schools are not a top priority. I am more concerned with safe areas with reasonable commute times into St Pete as priorities, with affordable housing too (say, $200K or less).

So where should I be looking? Thanks!

where in st pete, it's a large place and folks generalize with the name, do you mean beach side or bay side, north st pete by gateway or south by tierra verde?

Lots of great areas, all depends on what you want.

Check out Northeast St. Pete. Plenty of good neighborhoods, less than 10 min. to downtown in most cases. A good zip code to check out would be 33702. It would definately help to know what part of town your job would be in. Good luck.

I lived in the 33709 (still have family there) and found it to be generally safe, quiet, and affordable. Knowing where your job is would be a great help as it is hard to recommend anything without considering your commute first.

Thanks for the initial responses. I apologize for the delay in responding.

The commute destination would be in Bay Pines/oakhurst shores area. Definately not as far south as Tierra Verde.

For the zips provided, 33709 appears to be almost directly west, but close. 33702 even farther west.

I worked in the Bay Pines area and 33709 was a pretty short commute (depending on traffic). If you'd like more info on that area from the perspective of someone who lived there, PM me.
Good luck on your search!

If your gonna work in bay pines, just get a house in Seminole. It is considered one of the better areas of pinellas county and you can certainly buy a nice place for $200K.

I live in 33707-33711 -- the Marina District of Gulfport. I live alone and feel quite safe. There is a community spirit and good neighborhood feel here and we interact a lot. Boca Ciega Yacht Club (really a sailing association with lots of friendly people who sail and have another sense of community) is close to the Marina (natch). Water. Walking. Friendly people. Safety. Privacy. A mile from downtown/businesses/restaurants so there's no influx of strangers. A mile from downtown/businesses/restaurants/beach so everything is readily available and comfortable. Houses vary in size and cost. There are some areas in Gulfport that are nicer than others, so be sure to interview neighbors and get a feel for the whole neighborhood before you buy. Better still, rent for a while until you know what's best for you. Hope you come to the Marina District.
