Moving from Charlotte in 2 weeks and need some advise. Just got back from seeing houses from Wesley Chapel to Riverview and thinking of renting a house in South Pointe. Wanted to know if this is a good neighborhood. How is the crime in this area?

Used to be gangs in that area about 6-7 years ago, not sure about now, but I found this article relating to the area.

I get that guy has some off the wall postings, not sure what his deal is, I gather he is a native Floridian who hates anything that promotes the over development of the area, at any rate he didn't make that up, why is he mister negative? Riverview really got hit hard during the bubble burst, it's bounced back some since, but it has it's pockets.

What are you talking about? South Pointe is known to have gang activity since at least 2008-2009. This has nothing to do with being negative and everything to do with answering OPs question. And what the hell did you add to the convo to help OP? Are you from here, did you know south pointe has gang activity? Your post attacking me is WORTHLESS!

OP, on a serious note since I am giving you real advice about the area, best to look at homes a little further south in Ruskin off 19th and us 301 at Cypress Creek. New homes within the last 10 years and they will increase in value now that the Amazon warehouse moved in across the street. Panther trace is also a good option.

Ignore most of these people they are from up north and if you say anything other than "oh florida is gumdrops and panda bears" they get butthurt like above guy ITT.

Thanks, we started lookin into other communites. Unfortunately lost $100 on the application for a house we saw. After seeing the crime in the community just didn't feel it was right for us. Especially since most of the problems were in the same street the house is in. I appreciate the advise. It's not easy when your out of state.

From what I understand, certain areas of Riverview became the go-to place for "refugees" from the Town & Country area seeking to escape the gang influence. Problem is, their less desirable "friends" and family members followed them. And South Hillsborough already had its own gangbanger problems.

I think Summerfield is OK, though. In Ruskin, I don't recommend Riverbend, if you're looking there.

Summerfield has its pockets as well. Boyette springs and Riverglen which we once nice middle-upper middle class neighborhoods has gotten RUN DOWN. Havent been out there in a few months though but when i go back to Riverview these days its nothing like the place I remember it being in the late 90s early 2000s.

I was shocked to see how bad the whole Ruskin-Riverview area has become, especially Riverview, it's like a huge ghetto and all around here is going downhill FAST. I've watched Brandon crash and burn over the past few years. It's becoming very minority majority so if you're hispanic, black, indian or middle eastern, or at least a heavily tattooed up druggie white go for it. The hispanics are pushing really hard to drive out the whites and possess this area so don't expect a warm welcome. I think the whites are moving to New Tampa, Fish Hawk, and Walden Woods, places like that. Really though Hillsborough County isn't your best bet long term. The feeling of menace from the crime brings the quality of life down a lot. Palm Harbor is probably the best I could suggest in this area. Good luck and be careful!
