Megabus, a city-to-city express bus service company, is expected to announce today that it's launching service out of downtown Tampa, shuttling passengers to and from Miami and Orlando. Its 81-seat, double-decker buses will run six daily arrivals and departures from the Marion Transit Center at 1211 N Marion St.

Service begins May 15.

My daughter and her friends used to use MegaBus for trips to NYC. They stopped when the companies abysmal safety record hit close to home with an accident that killed people in Syracuse. The driver drove the bus under a low bridge after missing many warning signs.

I once took a Megabus from Boston to NYC for $1. The driver was on her phone talking the entire trip -and the phone wasn't the handsfree kind.

I think the State of Florida should offer this service for free. It would only be one-ten thousandth of the cost of running another set of train tracks along I-4.

Another waste! Is our Gov stupid? do they not understand that we like to get places faster? we need HIGH SPEED TRAINS! Not more crap buses! There are no sight seeing opportunities between all these cities but a ton of flat boring land! I mean seriously...who commutes to these cities by bus? raise your hand?! who wants to take 5+ hours to get somewhere?
This is a super major waste of money.

Megabus isn't a gov't program - it's a commercial one.
Airplanes are faster than trains.
People who can't afford an airplane tickets will buy bus tickets. These tickets sometimes cost $1. There are a lot of people who can afford $1.
The trip from Orlando to Tampa is about 90 minutes.

Nope not our Gov't in this case. I dont think the target market is people who have a daily commute to Orlando, but a way to spend the weekend at the Orlando attractions, or Tampa Beaches (I know not Tampa) . I would use it to hang out at Orlando one night and come back in the morning, anything that makes me not drive in Orlando is good in my book. At any rate if I want to start a bus line from Plant City to Dixie county thats my prerogative my money to lose, thats how the free market works.

If it fails at least it will be PRIVATE money and not TAXPAYERS paying the bill.
