Here we go with a twist to my words again. Did i not say up above, that if we have plenty of upper level support and lift that we will see good rains, and they won't die out.

Here is what i said in post #30.

Most summers we will see a training event with a southwest wind, when we have plenty of lift and upper level support. During the winter we will see heavy rain about 120 to 150 miles offshore in the loop currnet, but when the heavy rain gets within 40 miles of the beaches and hits the much cooler water temps it just dies out.

Pirus lover is in dreamland folks. He can't figure out simple weather facts. Plus this was not a summer pattern, but a front that caused the lift.

In layman's terms, what is "lift" and what is "upper level support"?

And isn't this an unusual event for this time of year? I always think of May as a more or less dry month. Seems like there has been more moisture this year, even during the winter.

Lift = air rising, air rising along with upper level support= means good chances of heavy rain. Also throw in cold air aloft and it makes the mix even better. This last winter we had a much wetter pattern compared to the last 2 winters before this one. We were around our normal rainfall for this last winter and spring, my rainfall amounts were double what i got in the last 2 winters- spring. Still nothing compared to the fall thru Spring of 97-98.

Most times May is dry and hot but will vary. May of 1979 we had 17" in two days, May of 1995 we broke heat records, May of 09 was also on the west side.

I just shut my irrigation system again, as I got 3" of beautiful rain at my house.

I feel sorry for all the folks who were flooded.

Nice rain-cooled air here today. But just wait until the sun hits all that moisture, ugh.

Temple Terrace - I golfed there last week and noticed a lot of homes near the river and wondered if they worried about flooding....I got my answer.

Ouchie! Until this weather event, I had no idea about the Temple Terrace flooding. I knew about the USF area, having seen it there before.

I always carry flood insurance no matter where I live, as I learned many years ago in MA that most any place can flood......even if it never has before. $400/yr gives me a great peace of mind.

I think that's good advice. Watching TV over the last several days shows all kinds of folk in S.E. USA without flood insurance up **** creek.
