Nice weather, good public transportation, universal health care in Spain (right?), plus a very good pension.....why exactly do you want to immigrate to Florida?
Well there are deductions and exemptions that would drive down what he would ultimately pay.....

You didn't say where you are in Spain and specifics about why you are leaving. As an American, I have enjoyed living as an expat (Mexico for 5 years), so I understand how you may feel about coming to the US as an expat, of sorts. It's a good adventure.

We have traveled in Spain over the years, most recently Barcelona and Ronda. We are planning a trip to Sevilla in August/September. We will consider Spain as a future venue to live either full or part time, once our Florida adventure is over. We live in 5 year increments since our retirement in 2003.

Is it possible for you to live part-time in both Espana and the EEUU?? That would be the best of both worlds, no? Maybe you have family in both places???

Don't know much about our own disability system, but you'd think one would have to pay money into our social security system in order to file a claim against our system - but our entitlement program has swelled so much, they're probably giving the $$$ away to all comers.

Is the ONLY reason you wish to come here "just to make a change" as you said in your first post..... I agree with the poster who said you should visit Tampa first, and also yes maybe consider just part time or short term.

I was born and raised in Tampa and my grandparents were from Spain, frankly I wish I could go THERE for awhile!

You should not have to pay taxes on that amount at all, I dint see how or why, I know if you are US citizen working abroad you have to pay taxes, your pension should not qualify but if it did and for some bizarre reason you would have to pay back taxes since you started working and collecting the pension.

And wow … does anyone else think over 30K per year is a lot of money for a government to give an incapacitated citizen? I know a couple of people on disability here in the United States, and they don't get over 30K per year. Not making any judgements … I'm just shocked at the amount.
Don't be shocked, other countries actually care for their citizens.

OP; it would be a HUGE mistake to move to the states. HUGE...you have an income, and medical covered, here that would be a huge issue for you to get here unless you work. I am a stay at home mom and cannot have health care here unless I work, and, I can't find any work anymore (as in a full time job), because I've been home a while...You sound like you have a great life there, don't make a mistake and ruin it by moving here. Take a vacation here if you want, but you are very well cared for there, and you will NOT find the same here.

No. They would not. To get social security disability you need a social security account and you have had to work to get credits. For us here the less time y0u spent working, the less you will get. SS disability is based on life time earnings.

He couldnt get SSI because his income/assets are too high.

I am not sure if he can get in under the ACA because he is not a citizen, but I am not sure on that.

If I recall, Spain was bailed out by European Union. Perhaps they "care about their citizens" might be from over taxing their population quite a bit - at least that's how other European countries are able to accomplish their degrees of socialism.

Right, unlike here where our tax dollars cover nothing other than fuel wars elsewhere! That's so much better. Only 6% of all taxes are sent to education....You sound like a loving/caring person, so glad I don't know you. I rather pay higher taxes elsewhere than pay taxes here, and have no coverage at all. What does "socialism" have to do with it? People pay, and they get something in return unlike here where people pay insane amounts and get crap or nothing in return!
