Can anyone recommend any good shooting ranges in the TB area? Any that rent guns so you can try different ones out?

Kind of expensive, but they do let you try out different guns. They are very helpful and spend as much time with you as you need.

The nicest range in Tampa Bay is Shooters World on Fletcher Ave and I275 in Tampa. However, it's nearly always busy and they're expensive on everything from range to ammo to guns and accessories. I don't get a feel like they're actually gun enthusiasts there, they're more like a well run business that happens to be guns.

I also like Shoot Straight like floridagirl777 mentioned. I go to the one on 301 near Florida State Fairgrounds. Their range is not quite as nice but most of their employees are really nice and really into guns. Their employees are allowed to open carry in the store. Pricing definitely better than Shooters World.

Finally, I visit Shooting Sports on Dale Mabry near Carrollwood. Kind of run down in appearance but they're nice and prices are great (they sell all day range use rather than hourly, for non-members). Rifle range is very small so I wouldn't go there for long gun shooting or you could be waiting a while.

I prefer Shooters World. Newest and biggest by far.

I wonder when they changed that policy? We were there last summer, and I tried out a Glock and a 9mm Beretta (I think that's what it was called). The only problem we had there was the lack of ammo. Apparently, when they get a shipment in, people rush in and buy a ton of it up, so they didn't have much left for the people coming in to use the range.

Perhaps they stopped rentals due to liability. Didnt several people rent a weapon and shoot themselves with it over the past few years?

Dunno.

The one in Clearwater just moved. Maybe made the change then?

I like going to shooters world on flether. Its nice, clean and quite large so you rarely have to wait (if you do its usually only a few minutes)
