Business trip with lots of spare time, in Tampa area. What is the best for the money beach front place to stay? Walk to activities. Maybe a beach front small cottage? 3 or 4 nights. Don't require 4 star type thing, just clean, and comfortable.

If you want to stay on a nice beach, at an affordable rate along with some food options near by and a fantastic beach bar. Checkout the Beachcomber on St. Pete Beach.

I think St Pete Beach is the best if you don't want it to be too touristy like Clearwater. All the hotels are ancient though, at least the ones on beachfront. I'd go with Grand Plaza amongst what is available as their rooms are tiled so they're at least very clean, compared to most of the others which are carpets all well past their prime.

You're within walking distance to many beach bars, they have a rotating circular restaurant on the top floor and there are activities within walking distance along with a few surprisingly good restaurants like Mad Fish and 1200 Chophouse. The Tradewinds resort is walking distance and has a lot of outside rental options like wave runners, water jet pack, paddle boards, beach cruisers, etc.
