"Most people in FL" live in Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville and coastal towns.

BTW, OP you should really come visit if you're having doubts. The Tampa MSA has about 2.7 million people compared to Chicagoland's >9 million. If you like Chicago you may be disappointed with what the area has to offer.

Sure, easy to understand if you're from Illinois, lost your job, and know that the COL is lower in Florida. Why not move and try it out ? Doesn't mean they're going to stay long term ... things tend to be cyclical and the economy improves in Illinois, expect some of those transplants to return. And are these movers professionals or just folks that are unemployed and figure they can make it easier in Florida if the COL is lower ?

All of the Florida lovers here rave about how the state is now the 3rd most populous. I would ask what type of people are moving in ... are they folks from up North and Central/South America/Puerto Rico with their pockets empty and arms outstretched ? Does Florida have the jobs and infrastructure to support all these new residents ? Growth is not always a good thing ...

From that photo you need a microscope to see much. You would get a much better view using Google Earth street view or just check Google Images.

There are more than 50 golf courses here.

Suburbs of Chicago are not the neighborhoods in Chicago.

From what I read here there are plenty of good paying jobs in Chicago.

I dont know why anyone would have their arms outstretched because FL does not provide very much in government assistance. Since the unemployment rate is at about 6 pct, I would say there are jobs and infrastructure to support the growing population.

I read here the COL in FL is not low.

Lots of contradictions here.

Been to Chicago during various periods of my life. Went to boot camp near there, been there on biz a lot during the early 80s. Chicago is just a big city with all the big city problems to go with it. Add in those brutal winters and it does not attract me in anyway shape or form.

Fl has had 12 cases of vibrio vulnificus. Last year there was 41. I guess the media had to find something to hype up this year.

Vibrio Vulnificus is found all over the world in warm salt water.

Naegleria fowleri is found in warm fresh water. Spring water is around 72 degrees all the time.
It would not survive there. Manatees come in to our waters in the winter time.

Duh. That is why the insurance is higher. More dense populations which raises the risk of accidents and other losses significantly.

Why not? You did it to Orlando when you lived there.

Chicago has no warm salt water and most people there could care less about swimming with the manatees.
