Husband and I are moving to Spring Hill this fall. We have jobs waiting for us. I've read many threads on here about SH and many seem to imply it's not a good area for young professionals--why?
We visited the area and it seemed pretty nice, though I wish it was closer to the beach.
What is a reasonable household salary to live comfortably in SH?
Are Publix and walmart the only grocery options? I'm going to miss Kroger and their gas discounts
Thanks!

And does Pine island beach ever get deeper than your knees? I think it was really low tide when we were there.

Winn-Dixie has the fuel perks card which lets you earn savings at Shell gas stations. We shop at WD 95% of the time and on occasion go to Publix or Walmart.

There's a Sam's Club in Brooksville which has gas as well. I was always a Costco guy but since Sam's is right here I just broke down and got a membership there.

I feel that Spring Hill is like most anyplace else, some parts are nicer than others. I just searched the crime records via the link provided in another thread. From when my development was built (in the 80's) through today there is a total of 55 reports. Approximately half of them are traffic stops or accident related at the location where my street exits the development and meets the numbered county road. The rest are a mix of criminal mischief (kids), a domestic here and there, or a burglary here and there.

I'm a professional in my early 40's and I'm quite happy here. I relocated for a job promotion.

As far as living comfortably and salary goes, that's kind of a subjective thing. Your housing dollars go a long way here. For example, my mortgage is 1/4 of my monthly salary.

Yes it does. At low tide you could walk out to the channel. At high tide you wont get 1/2 across and not touching the bottom.

Publix, Winn Dixie, Wal Mart and Sams Club are the major grocery guys. There is an Aldi - Its in New Port Richey.

I dont think many imply that it is not a good area for professionals. It would depend on the profession.
There isn't much here for people in media, communications, bio tech, and a 100 other professions.
Medical is big here, estate planning, willls trusts, corporate law. There is an aviation sector here.
Besides that there isnt much in the way of business here except retail and food service as Spring Hill is basically a housing development. A subdivision on steroids.

Household salary of about $40k is median here.

Howard Park is a closer beach not far from Tarpon Springs.

Ive been here 9 years, 25 in FL and we like it out here. It is far enough from the cities to be nice and quiet.

Ahhhh. That's a loaded question. My husband and I are young professionals, and we did not like Spring Hill. I've learned, however, that not everyone is like us, so perhaps you will feel differently when you get there.

I agree with whoever said about 40K is a reasonable household salary, although we know several people in Spring Hill who are making it work on about 30K.

I used to shop at Kroger all the time back when we lived in TN! We loved Kroger! There are other grocery stores in Spring Hill. I think someone else named them for you.

Pine Island Beach is typically pretty shallow. You'll need to go at high tide in order for it to be over your knees. When we lived there, we would go to Pine Island for sunsets but rarely for swimming. The bottom is too muddy and the water too hot for my taste. Thankfully, better beaches are about an hour away, so whenever we wanted a really nice beach, we just went south to Honeymoon Island instead.
