We are being relocated to the Tampa area and know absolutely nothing about the area at all. The job is in downtown Tampa. We are looking for a family oriented area with good schools (middle and high school) and 30 minute or less commute to downtown.

It depends what price range you are looking for and what type of housing you are interested in?

The closer to down town in the better areas the higher the prices. Are you looking to rent or buy and even if you interested to rent there are huge price ranges in Tampa depending on what your looking for and can or are willing to pay for.

Carrollwood is nice. South Tampa: Davis Island, Bayshore Blvd. Those are really the only areas I would feel somewhat safe in. Stay away from Ybor, Nebraska Ave, Fletcher Ave, Adamo Drive, Fowler Ave, anything near a University here is a NO NO. Waters ave and most of Dale Mabry's crossroads are nasty. The same rule applies here, NEVER live near a highway!! Tampa is extremely limited. Honestly you don't have to live in Tampa though, Gandy Blvd goes into Tampa as well as an area called Feathersound. Feathersound has nice homes and condos, mostly gated areas with security, is VERY safe, and you're still only a bridge away from downtown Tampa. You would take the bridge named the Howard Franklin (highway 275) which is a bit faster than Gandy and gets to Downtown quicker than the Gandy route. Would most likely take you at most 40 min to get from Feathersound to Downtown Tampa.
