Ya, that's what I was thinking. Kinda hoping to get some tropical activity (storm, light hurricane), but it looks like once again the man-made global warming kooks were wrong about the hurricane season again.

We never see much of any action from tropical storms or Canes. We had that freak 2 year thing in 04 and 05. but that is really it other than the Sept storm of 1985, Andrew was way too far to the south to bother us.

The no name storm in 1993 gave us the worst weather out of any storm since i have been alive. Around 75mph winds in the Tampa area and 100mph on the coast. I would have been 100 miles offshore fishing that Friday nite when it hit us, but the boat was in drydock. No one had a clue how strong that low was gonna get.

I miss watching for the daily weather already. We have a 5 hour severe storm alert with predicted hail and possible tornadoes - which seem to becoming all too frequent up here. Still waiting though...

And I miss seeing the big open skies. Can't see anything around here and I'm on the second floor.

I am inland, between Tampa and Orlando and this is my situation. I can drive all over the county, turn into my road out of a driving rain and there is nothing on my road. I go two houses off the hwy on my road and it is pure, dry gray sand with no moisture whatsoever. It happens. all. the. time. I have a curse or and umbrella over my house. We have had a lot of thunder and lightening, mostly in the short distance but nothing else happens. Bah ! I am a gardener, I. need. rain. LOL.

As a 70 yr old native Floridian, there is subtle differences in the air and the color of the light when the weather starts to change, either the spring and/or the fall. Trust me, you just have to be open to it and spend a lot of time outside like I do.

I like this thread.

Are there different conditions which need to be met here or is it more likely that the types of storms here do not usually meet the severe thunderstorm minimums of wind, rainfall, hail etc?

Thx Bud.
are you sure you have the right SAME code plugged in? Ours has been pretty quiet this summer also.
Goes off when tornado or strong winds are in the forecast. Its gotta be pretty severe for it to trigger the alert here.

It's the angle of the sun that makes the light look diff.

Yep. It went off for a tornado, but never once for a severe t-storm and it is programmed.

Another day of flooding rains offshore. Sat and Sun we had what i call the shadow effect, where we have heavy rain 15 to 50 miles offshore and then it rebuilds east of the Tampa area and moves very little and the beaches and the Tampa area miss out on any rain.

It's been pretty overcast the past couple of days but not very much rain. It's kind of odd.

I also noticed that forecasts of high temperatures are starting to moderate a bit, down into the upper 80s/lower 90s from the mid 90s we've been seeing. It felt cool last night at my house. This is good news of course!

Good cloud cover and lower temps here in Gulfport....I was able to work in the gardens for a few hours without fear of sun stroke...nice!

We noticed about a week ago that our lawn growth is slowing down, a reflection of the shorter days. Our mowing service will be thrilled, as he's been mowing ours every 6 or 7 days the past month!
