Asheville was nice but mostly spent time at the Biltmore Estate and not much more. I enjoy mountains and cooler temps. Lived in snow in Germany for >20 yrs. Good for a few weeks, but nothing longer.
Thanks, BucFan. Not sure what you mean by "tiny places", you mean like the smaller towns or the smaller houses?

I would think the Hendersonville/Flat Rock area might work for you. It has ParDee Hospital and you'd be in between Greenville, SC and Asheville. I think it's possible to find something there that might be a little quieter, but still provide access to what you need. Not sure about the congestion in the town, though.

I spent time in Murphy a couple of times. Too small of a town. I'll look into those others.

Search is your friend learch. Posted the crime reports everytime you bring up how nice my hood is when you don't live here, over 20 times since 2007. It's the same old thing and why the mods can't just put a stop to you typing to me beats me. Time after time you would say there are no real crimes in my hood and i would post proof otherwise. You don't live here so how would you know? It's all to make a sale to some dumb fool. Look at all the threads on here when someone ask about west Pasco and look how peeps reply saying it's a bad place. I live here and see the facts , you don't. FOLKS notice how you see the same address pop up time after time on the crime reports posted here. That just goes to show ya these are trashy renters causing the problems n my hood. The traffic stops are from me reporting a kid on a motor bike time after time and i am going to take it up with the state that the sheriffs office is not doing anything about it. Kids running at 60mph day after day that are 6 to 12 years old.

I think you'd like it. Couldn't ask for a better location, lots of retired people, but also families as well and different areas to accommodate both. Cooler, more moderate weather, does get a little hot at times during the summer, but doesn't last more than a week. Lots to do. anyway, check it out for yourself.

I have to laugh about Murphy. Never been there, but I've met some retirees around here who had the idea to retire there, tried it out and came back here. They felt too isolated. They had some really good tips about what NOT to do when relocating to Western NC. Such as, never live in a house with a driveway that has more than a gentle grade, especially if that driveway is asphalt, because you'll be good and stuck when it ices over, until it melts. And you'll have to be patient with the people who clear the ice and occasional snow. They do things on their schedule, not yours.
