No private high schools in the immediate area...the closest two would be Berkley Prep(right past the Pinellas border)and Clearwater Catholic...my daughter had good friends in both and at one point we considered Clearwater Catholic...to me many of the children suffered from "afluenza"...and had more money then integrity despite it being a religious school...but there are others Tampa Prep and Jesuit located further into Tampa just to name a couple more but I know little about them (sorry)...Just one last comment about PHUHS and the blogs...for whatever reason there is quite a lot of resentment towards the school in the surrounding area...it's reputation as the "jewel in the crown" of Pinellas schools...a few years back they tried(school board) to take the IB program out and move it to Countryside to help increase that schools rating...there was a huge outcry...and that idea was scrapped...I think that failure to get the program moved is part of the reason Palm Harbor HS is so disliked...that's not to say there are no drugs or bad teachers in PHUHS...but I do believe there are less of both...

Thanks for the private school update.. there is only one private high school in our area and it suffers from a small dose of afluenza too...ha, ha. The public schools are better academically then this private but the private does have the small classes and the extra attention for the unmotivated learners. I will be in the area during the week of Thanksgiving, our kids are off the entire week for some reason this year and I will visit one or two of these schools.
I agree on the blog stuff..I don't give it total credibility but I did look up my area high schools on it and found the comments to be accurate...there was one complaint that I did not agree with but most of them were dead on. So I am concerned that PH has so many negative complaints unless as you state it was just back lash from the political move to move the IB program to Countryside. What is the deal on countryside?? My kids might like the Center for computer Technologies program. Any thoughts on that program? Also, does anyone have any input on the culinary program at Tarpon Springs HS? Do those kids go on to college for nonculinary related degrees or do they only pursue careers in culinary arts?
Thanks

Default locations

I believe you have to live in East Lake to attend East Lake High School. Mostly newer homes. Palm Harbor HS has about 38 portable classrooms. Tarpon Spring HS is the oldest school. Countryside HS is in Clearwater, but kids living in Oldsmar can attend.

Update News: Two new two-story classroom buildings will replace the 42 portables at Palm Harbor
High School by June 2015. The $27 million project will add 39 classrooms and
feature covered walkways and a courtyard.

PHUHS is building a new classroom facility to do away with the portable classrooms. I go to the YMCA near there and see the constructions

PH high school will give portable classrooms the boot
