Instead of asking the same questions about possibly relocating, I'm more curious about families that live in Tampa and the surrounding areas that may have relocated there.

Specifically, everyone thinks they love the beach because they vacation there. So how quickly after moving there do you no longer get excited about it? Or do you still go? Does the luster of vacationing to Florida quickly wear off once you live in a sub-tropical location, where you can access that stuff any day?

And how many of these relocators, so to speak, actually regret their decision after a humid summer or two, lots of bugs, little change of seasons?

Vacations are very different from moving, and this is what has me in binds as we think about our options.

Thanks for your honest thoughts.

Beach:

Yes for some.

No for others.

We are in the later, but we do not go weekly. I am limited in my ability to get out, but I feel so free when I can see the open waters.

Bugs:

We really don't have any at our house. I am amazed at how few flies I have seen at restaurants. Grand total of two...LOL!

Summers:

I love the summers here.

Change of seasons:

As is evidenced by the 20 degree drop in temps and drop in dew points, we do have a change of seasons here. It is just a much more mild change of seasons, which is fine by me.

BUT, I agree that people need to look PAST vacations when it comes to relocating. We did not relocate here because of Disney World or anything like that. We moved here because we love the weather here, it made financial sense, love the area, the airport is fantastic and we have family here.

I tired of too much sun causing cancer - when i go to the beach I head toward the tree lined areas - don't like the crowds either - I can live without being near beaches.

I did get tired of boating and the beach after about a year. It just started to become boring to me. I can appreciate the things I enjoy more when done less frequently.

It's certainly different than how outsiders think it is...my family and friends back home in SC think we just get home from work and hop over to the beach every afternoon. Not true, we still have life in the way like everyone else and are tired and have a laundry list of things to do in the evenings.

With that said, the beauty in living here is that IF you do get the urge to hit the beach on a whim...it's very simply and feasible and doesn't take planning.

We spend a lot of time on the beach and boating, so this area is right up our alley. There is another world out there on a boat.

Well, for us it is a matter of time & gas....Sometimes I have time but no gas, other times I have gas but no time!
We don't like the crowds either, and I too stay in the shade every time we go...

We lived here our entire lives so, we know the beach is "there", and there is no pressure to go...when we have time we go...

Yeah, I will say one big difference here versus back home (South Carolina) are the crowds on the beaches. There is 1000x more commercialization of beaches here, tall condo buildings ruining the scenery, parking lots, and just a ton of people everywhere. I love the water here, but prefer the beaches back in SC where it is more serene and peaceful.

We also never tire of the awesome breeze coming off the gulf on many days. Don't even have to be on the beach to enjoy it, just obviously not as strong as on the beach itself. We feel very, very fortunate.

And I agree with a previous post. Having the OPTION to go to the beach whenever you want to with zero planning is a nice perk for a lot of people.

I stopped going in the early 80s when Big Money went all out buying up most of the small beach front bars and turning them into either high end housing or mega touristy bars. I literally grew up on the beach (we owned a small hotel on Treasure Island) and just didn't like all the changes.

There are still other beaches which this has not happened. Almost non, if not non, are like Clearwater Beach.

Sand Key was wide open when we went there, yet Clearwater was jam packed. Go figure them being so close.

There is also Sunset Beach, which is beautiful and devoid of any commercialization at all.

And there are more options available.
