Right, one of the main cons although weather is somewhat one to me. It may help to be in more of a neighborhood type place with a hip vibe, but still isnt no compact city where its made to be easier. Tampa as far as recreation is grand for a city its size though. Many venues, although sprawled sometimes. Skippers smokehouse is like the other side of the world, but a great place.

There is just way to much devotion to the car in the south and people should consider that if they plan to move to regions of the country with the obvious oil problems in this country.

I dont think anyone puts any serious thought to this in FL. I bring it up, some may say it sounds interesting, but it goes no further. Its not like they go out of their way to google it or anything.
Theres a high speed rail project supposedly coming, but it cannot be like the system in Portland. I mean will it run at all like a light rail? I don't think so. I think its a speed service thats supposed to run like a car. Brings you right from one place to another with no stops inbetween perhaps. That will suck if thats the case because then people in the burbs wont have that way to get to the city.
This is why I want Portland. Tampa is gonna take a long time to get where it needs to be. Although climate is partially another reason I am considering your home area.

Can anyone give me feedback on living in Tampa for a family with two children? i.e., quality of schools, crime rate, cost of living, etc.?

Thanks in advance.

I'll give you everything else, but progress is probably the dead last thing I'd put over Tampa. The fact that we're still debating on a train should say it all.

There are a lot of good areas in Tampa and QOL is good if you like the water and don't mind the heat during summer. Right now the main problem is high unemployment.

Tampa Bay is a large area and traffic is bad. Like many places schools can be good or bad depending on the area.

Had a chance to finally visit Welcome to the Tampa Bay History Center

Pretty interesting to learn about the early history of the Seminole Indians in this region and the Spanish explorers before that. Also a look at Ybor and Cigar City history - recommend a visit at least once for locals.

Next time - will eat at the Columbia Cafe co-located at the museum.
