We had gutters up North, but when we came here we removed them from our house because they were a pain. So far we've been doing fine without gutters and according to the research we've done that's typical for people in Florida.

You really don't need them here like you did in the north when you have a basement.

I like gutters but I heard if you have them you will have to replace your fascia because of the rotting. Sorry if I spelled that wrong!

With the amount of water coming off a roof in a summer drenching here the odds are your gutters will overflow, defeating the purpose. They do have a wide/deep gutter, 6" I think, but you would need downspouts all over the place to keep the gutter from overflowing.

Bottom line: Not necessary in FL.

My house has the 6" gutters. I get them cleaned once a year by a local guy who is very reasonable. It's probably time again, come to think of it. I can do most of it myself, but can't get to the back side around the lanai without getting up on the roof. There are a total of ten downspouts, I think.

I'm glad I have them, and once my neighbor has their trees topped I probably won't have to get them cleaned as often. But I agree they are not a necessity.

I'd agree that gutters are usually not worth the upkeep they take. My house had gutters, we removed them. All except ones at back of a slanted porch roof. No problems .
