Isn't a commute to Tarpon Springs, just as long- if not longer- than a commute from citrus park/carrollwood area?
Difference is you have many alternate routes to get to your destination and at the end of the day you are a lot closer to the beaches.
Some 4+bdr homes in St Pete in the $300K range.

I may come off as a bit pro St Pete but i grew up there and consider it somewhat of a hometown.

The new house thing you can have that anywhere just look for new constructions, unless you want a community of new homes, all over the Bay older houses get torn down new ones go up. If you are looking for community of new homes then you are going to have drive a but most communities went up late 70's and 80's, in places like feather sound, some in the 90's in northern Pinellas. Oldsmar would probably be my choice, but for new constructions manatee county might be the way to go in terms of easier commute

The hard part is this: things look a lot closer and easier on google maps than they do when you're actually living here. We chose our apartment because it looked like it would be easy to get to both places we needed to go. It's really quite a pain when the distance is actually only 18/19 miles away. That sounds short, quick, and easy when you see main roads like the expressway, I 275 or 19. Google will tell you that, with traffic, it's only 25 minutes. That is almost never the reality even at non rush hours. It doesn't factor in the long traffic lights - it assumes you never have to stop. I drive 18 miles every day. I take 60, 611 & I 275 and 40 minutes is the norm during rush hour, 30 during non rush hour. I go that route because the construction on both 19 and Ulmerton is so dreadful that it can take almost an hour going either of those ways.

Thank you all for your insight!!

I think we may also look in the Manatee county area, and we'll make a decision from there. Ellenton seems to have rave reviews (I know the commute would be lengthy) but we shall see!

Ellenton and Parrish are adjacent. It is not a bad commute at all in driving time, just miles. 35 minutes if you leave early AM, and maybe 45 minutes at most in the afternoon. Lots of new home communities to choose from in that area between I 75 and Ft Hammer Road along 301 and Old Tampa road.
