If they know they dont like hot temps I dont see why the southern US would be considered in someones relocation plans. Its like someone who dislikes cold considering Alaska, Michigan, Maine etc.

In northern Maine winter starts in late August and ends in May. Being outside in the cold of the northern states in winter can kill you. Your car breaks down out there somewhere, your cell phone is out of range or dead battery. You freeze to death.

I'll take 92, 94 with the tropical humidity in the summer and also get to enjoy the cooler temps of the November-March period.

However, millions of people live in the northern US.

I get a laugh when they complain about winter crying out for spring to come.
Amen.

Hey, if u like 4 degrees on a February morning - having coffee while you vehicle oil defrosts and hopes that the battery didnt freeze - then heading out for work - go for it. If u like highs in the 20's-50's from fall to summer so be it. Those types are people who should have the common sense not to move to a southern state.

Oh, I know about the electric dip sticks and taking the battery inside the house. More hassles.

LOL.

I've experienced some dangerously cold weather before, and never even considered taking my battery in the house. Was this in the 70's, or do you just buy cheap batteries? I also don't know anyone who uses an electric dipstick.

Another hassle of living in the cold.......

"In cold temperatures, engine oil thickens causing hard cold starts and potential internal engine damage".

A mechanic says "Cold temperatures wreak havoc on batteries because they slow the chemical reaction inside of the battery. Though batteries can function under myriad conditions, the cold weather tends to degrade high-quality batteries and may render subpar batteries useless."

Thus a battery blanket or find another way to keep the battery out of freezing weather.

Oil heaters can be a electric dip stick or a magnetically attached oil pan heater.

"Even with a Block heater our vehicles sometimes refuse to start. With a pan heater, your warming the oil which flows much better warm then very cold and its much easier on parts. Plus heat rises helping warm the engine. On top of things, I use battery blankets I also plug in."

Stay in denial.

Really? You're just in denial. Keep convincing yourself that winter is the north is such a treat.
