My husband and I are considering moving into the Tampa Bay area with a teenage daughter with moderate cerebral palsy and learning disabilities. we're not sure if she will graduate from high school with a standard diploma or not at this point and are not sure if we will be moving before or after she turns 18. I'd like to know if anyone has any information about the quality of services for young adults with disabilities, particular opportunities to connect with others and to work on employability and independence. We are looking for an area that is both safe but has easy access to the amenities of an urban setting. Would be interested to hear specific areas in the Tampa Bay area or for that matter any other areas South Coastal that would meet the needs of all of our family members.

Skip St Pete or Pinellas County for any services like this, stick to Tampa, maybe even go to Bradenton. If I was in your situation on where to live with a kid with a disability and thinking about schools and services but want to be near the city. I'd go to South Manatee near the Sarasota airport and a really close drive to downtown as well.
