Recommendations for place to stay - near beach/on beach - on the nicer side - no Motel 6 types - safe area where we could walk around at night - trying to check out the area (3 day visit) - coming from South Florida.
We are driving over.

Smile Places to stay

I will check out their web sites. My FIL might be paying for this trip. My husband really needs a few days off. He is a CPA so you know what is upon us right now. Literally, he has been working 20 hour days.

Also, are there any communities that have MIL suites or separate guest homes attached or in front of the property?

Neither of us has ever visited Clearwater/Dunedin/Safety Harbour area - he can't wait to go over the bridge! Like I said, he needs a break and we are looking for a 2nd home/getaway place for the future and all.

Sorry, I just re-read your post asking about Clearwater/Dunedin, so please excuse the St. Pete Recommendations below .

A Clearwater favorite is the Belleview Biltmore Resort...it's very classy --> Belleview Biltmore Golf & Spa Resort - Clearwater, Florida

There is a Sheraton on Sand Key, but last time were were there, it was smelly. If it's been recently updated, I would recommend it as well.

On the Bay site, I'd suggest the Renaissance Vinoy --> Renaissance Vinoy Resort & Golf Club: Distinctive and stylish accommodations in St. Petersburg

On the Gulf side, I'd recommend the Don CeSar --> Don CeSar Beach Resort, A Loews Hotel | Florida's Romantic Resort

There are a few houses on the market right now that have guest cottages but it would depend on your price range. If you want a great place to get away for a weekend and have plenty to do, come to Dunedin. All walking distance, great restaurants, martini bars, pubs, beach, Clearwater Beach is only 10 minutes by car but you don't have to stay down there with all the horrible traffic and demolition and building that is going on right now. Pinellas Trail if you want exercise, there is a marina and you can take shuttles out to Caladesi Island and it will feel like you are on a Carribean Island.....Good Luck and the 16th will be here soon enough!!!!!!

The Hampton Inn on East Bay in Largo, just a couple miles to the beach. It also has the Largo park in front of it, VERY nice to walk and chill. My parents stay there every time they come down, always been very happy!
