Walmart put them out of business and when Kroger enters the market here it's only going to put the preasure on publix since Kroger is the second largest Grocery chain in the country right behind Walmart. Publix is going to have to reduce prices since Kroger ownes it's own processing plants so they can make products cheaper, and they also have their own gas stations like some walmarts have, along with their Kroger plus card were you can earn points twords a discount on gas. It's going to be good for us consumers because all 3 will be going after our dollars. And that Albertons was run down the parking lot lights hardly worked, storefront was dirty looking, it stunk like fish in the inside, every time it rained hard there were big pools of standing water in the parking lot. Now what is the city of Clearwater going to do there will be to huge vacant buildings next to each other the old K mart and now Albertsons. Two big eyesores for tourist to see on gulf to bay on there way to the beach, just what the city dose not need to promote tourism. Also Kmart still owns the land that their empty store sits on so the city cannot force them to o anything with it as long as they are paying their property taxes, KMart is waiting for the higest bid before they will sell.

Good riddance to Albertsons, they have gone downhill so much in the last 15-20 years...

Publix has NOTHING to worry about if Kroger ever comes here, which is DOUBTFUL. I don't think the market can sustain another chain of grocery stores. With Kash and Karry / Sweetbay going out recently, it's not looking good for another competitor.

Jewell tried years ago and failed, Kroger tried years ago and failed, albeit that was probably not a real commitment

Albertson's has struggled in the past decade in Florida against Publix, Walmart and Winn Dixie. It has acquired Safeway, making it the second largest supermarket chain in the United States (behind Kroger) and the fourth largest food retailer in the nation (behind Walmart, Kroger and Costco). Safeway and its banners had no presence in the southeastern United States. Albertson's is present in Texas and Louisiana markets.

I do not know what the futures of Albertson's three remaining Florida stores hold. Those stores will remain open.

Kroger entering Florida would have to be a bold move. Could it acquire an existing chain?

Well, eventually Aldi will beat all of them.

I was pleasantly surprised after checking the one that is opened recently near me (Oldsmar right in front of Walmart). You name it Fruits were unbelievably cheap (blue berry, orange, strawberry, mandarin, Kiwi etc all dirt cheap). I mean it was smoking cheap. Where do you get a 4lb Florida Orange for $1.50 . All the veggies too, fruit snacks, veggie chips, frozen fish you name it. I mean I probably was able to get some 70% of my shopping there. It has been a long time since I passed by one and was pleasantly surprised how cheap these are. Very clean too. You bet I am going back.

Aldi is a discount grocer, not a supermarket. It is dominant in the discount grocer sector of the food retailing industry. Supermarkets like Albertson's, Publix and Kroger can withstand Aldi stores.

Jewel is owned by Albertsons and Kroger is suppose to buy Sweetbay and they will come here they have allot of cash on hand and publix will feel the preasure just because Kroger can sell cheaper than publix they are a giant in the supper market world. They already said they are going to open up in Florida this would make 2 Ohio companies here speedway and Kroger when the get here.
