Hi, me and my finance will be coming down to Tampa this weekend to try to find somewhere to live. We won't be actually moving until June 1, but I figured we would try to at least get a jump start. We are not sure if its better to rent an apartment or rent a house. Do they have realtors that will take your information and pull up a couple of properties for you and take a look at? If so, can someone recommend a good realtor who doesn't mind giving us a little guidance. I'm not sure how it works. Thanks.

Honestly, few realtors work with rentals. Most rentals are privately let, on Craigs List. Some are on MLS and you can find them via one of the public real estate sites, like Realtor.com Trulia, Zillow etc under Rentals Tab.

Sadly, Craigslist is a trap and it should be avoided at all cost.

Find a management company; they deal with "home" rentals.

Craig's List is not a trap for savvy people. I have found several rentals over the years on Craig's List, and have rented out my rental on Craig's List as well

The scams are obvious

Craigslist is great if you know what's a scam and what isn't...so I wouldn't say it should be avoided "at all costs".

Craigslist is a great resource, i've bought and sold many items using Craigslist over the years.. the scams are usually obvious and easy to avoid.

I've been scammed quite a few times off Craigslist. There are a LOT of slumlords on there. The scams are far from obvious.

Some people are horribly gullible. They dont know how to follow the "if its too good to be true..." thought process.

So how do these "slumlords" scam? Do they take u to one place to look at the property and then u sign a lease for some other place?? Does the lease have one rate and they charge a different rate??
