Question for those familiar with Northeast summers. It gets really humid where we live in upstate ny - can reach 90s muggy- you basically want to stay inside. How do Florida summers compare? Let's say you live 20 minutes from the water do the gulf breezes help? Do people still sit on the beach?

I was in the Destin area one fourth of July. It was packed. It was pretty hot in the day but I didn't find it that bad like I wanted to stay inside all day.

It can get 90's /muggy for what 3 days???? lol

Try it for 4 months straight... THAT is the difference.

You didn't find it bad I would bet because you were ON VACATION..

But does the fact that you are near the water give you a breeze or help? We live inland and sometimes the air is so stagnant.

We live a block from Boca Ciega Bay in Gulport and yes, there's usually summer breezes coming off of it. However, friends who live just 5 minutes drive inland do not get much of a breeze. Being close to the water makes life in FL much nicer; inland you are colder overnight in winters and hotter during days in summers.

This is not a complaint at all about Florida weather - but IMHO - it is hotter than ____ hell during the summer months. Unbelievable, stifling, humid heat.

I'm a snowbird, we leave Florida in April for Canada, and I can tell you, they had an April heatwave this year, and for almost two weeks before we left, it was too hot and stuffy to go out for any extended time between 9 a.m and 6 p.m. Really. From full-timers I hear that the early mornings and evenings are pleasant.

It does get really hot here in the summer. I find that transitioning from Atlanta, and South GA it wasn't too bad. But, trying to look at it objectively, the humidity and heat are high here, and they do not really let go in the evening. It's do-able right on the coast, but even a bit inland it's hot. I don't mind the heat though, and, like anything you get used to it, and learn how to work with it.

Unless you are right on the beach breezes are non existent or very infrequent, if you are going to rely on breezes to cool you off you are going to be disappointed, a well running A/C is the most dependable breeze. Also for those loving Floridas heat and humidity what need is there for a breeze anyway?
