We are planning on moving back to Florida early next year to be closer to wife's side of the family now that we have a 2 year old girl. Lived in Miami in 2005, currently just outside Charlotte, NC for the last 10 years. May have passed through Lakeland once before. Like the small town feel and somewhat rural setting not too far from the city. This is about the farthest from Miami we'd consider.

Anyways I am an Audi technician and understand there is a dealership currently under construction to be completed by next June. Has anyone seen that to confirm, listed as Griffin rd just off I-4? Will be driving down to Miami area for training next month for a few days and we plan on driving through Lakeland on the way back. Have a few hours at most, just looking for some suggestions.

Drive through some neighborhoods, Lakeland Highlands, Lakeland, Winter Haven, walk around downtown/lake/park. Get some lunch. Mainly into cycling mountain&road, nature/wildlife. Just looking to get a concentrated tour as we consider this area, thanks.

I live in Lakeland Highlands and really like it here. Lakeland is a wonderful place. I am 45 minutes from the Tampa Airport and can get to the Orlando Airport in a little over an hour. Lakeland has a wonderful downtown area. There is a park just off of Carter Rd. that has great mountain bike trails. It was built on old phosphate land. My family is from Winter Haven so I am familiar with it as well. WH is smaller and during snowbird season the traffic gets horrible. Still not a bad place. Lakeland is a large city (over 100k people), but still retains a small town feel. I

We lived in Lakeland for two years. I think it is a very nice and underrated city. Has a beautiful downtown, numerous wonderful public parks, of course many beautiful lakes, performing arts center, nice art center, art all over downtown, good public transit (for Florida) nice bike lanes. And reasonably easy access to Tampa or Orlando.

I do recommend living in the southern part of Lakeland (Lakeland Highlands) although we lived in the Lake Hollingsworth area and loved it.

Good luck!

Yea, the Audi dealership is being built off of exit 32 I-4 east. I've driven past it several times this week. "Audi of Lakeland"

Lakeland has a bit of everything. Small city feel, rural area, sense of community in some areas, lots of shopping, it really is a HUGE area. Glad to see the area get an Audi dealership. That brand is hot right now. Lakeland and this whole corridor is hot right now between Orlando and Tampa. Lots of new development and building going up.

A pipe dream of mine is a modest house on a decent lot, maybe .5 to 1 acre, possibility of having a few chickens for eggs, decent school system. I see that appears to be a possibility in the area (thinking max $200K). Also what type of tropical fruit trees are successful there, I believe limited varieties of mangos, any chance Avocados and lemons/limes?
