We're moving to Tampa or St. Pete later this year. We'd like to build a new home rather than buy an existing one. What are your opinions on Tampa and St. Pete home builders?

We want to buy in an urban area, not in a subdivision or gated community. With a budget of $300k-$400k for a 3 bedroom house, our options are very slim.

We've looked at Domain Homes' listings and liked what we saw. What are your thoughts on Domain Homes? Other home builders?

I looked at Domain Homes and they are ok, they are building a lot around tampa bay, they are not the highest quality, eg use hurricane shutter screens, which are cumbersome to install on a bad day, rather than high impact windows, but along with many builders, you can most likely pay more and have upgrades - however depending on location, that could move you out of the budget you have. I settled on a home in the area I chose from a private contractor, who does spec building. Felt he did a better job, and was easy to work with.

Your timeline is going to be your worst enemy. You’ll be hard pressed to find someone to build for you in that short of a time frame.

We don't have a timeline. We'll live in an apartment until the house is built.

All new build homes will need to pass code, and have at a minimum Hurricane 3 windows which has been proven to be ok, unless of course any extreme Hurricane will directly hit.
