Tampa, FL looks awesome! If we move there, we will not know anyone! We are a young couple and I want to know what the scene is like there? Are the people young? Are they fun? Easy to get along with?
TB area folks are hard to like - they're not outgoing, friendly and friendships are hard to come by. It may be because of the heat, humidity. There's a lack of sense of community here. I'd find another place to live if fun, young, friendly people are a priority for you.

Seriously Bucfan??? I usually am in agreement with you on most things but not this time. I find the entire TBA extremely friendly, we have loads of friends in all areas and strangers seems very outgoing. I think it depends on how individuals present themselves. I have no problem approaching people. If one is introverted they will have issues no matter where they are.

I've been traveling to other places USA the past six years and have noticed a dramatic difference in the friendliness of folks compared to the TB area.....here people don't even make eye contact, acknowledge, or have time for the person next to them....other places they're go out of their way to be friendly.

Well, all I can say is my experience is the exact opposite of yours. Maybe it depends on specific areas.

As a frequent visitor, I find everyone in Tampa far friendlier than what I'm accustomed to. Come to New England for the epic combination of NY-style elitism and typical New England-style unfriendliness.

Seriously, I think you have to live here for at least 25 years before you become "accepted." Can't wait to leave.

NYers were very nice to me, must have been b/c I was visiting or they liked my southern accent Usually Tampans are very recluse and rude.

On an individual basis I find people that I come in contact with here friendly enough but collectively the population is rather rough around the edges. There is a large segment of the population that is crude, rude and stupid to be quite blunt.
The company I used to work for here and out west is a good example. The western store even though it does significantly more volume and has been open longer still is a beautiful facility. The Tampa location looks rough as the customers beat the crap out of it on a daily basis. No matter how much money they pour into maintenance it still always looks bad due to the clientele. The strange this is that they cater to middle and upper income people.
There is just a very large rough trashy population here that can unfortunately overshadow the normal good people.

Reno is calling you man. I was there a a few months ago. It's high and dry, beautiful mountains, Lake Tahoe, I-80 going to Sacramento is stunning.

This area is compiled of many....young professionals, families, etc. You should have no issue fitting in but I would suggest that you may want to move somewhere in South Tampa. It's "trendier" (for Tampa) with much to do.
