You can use realtor.com to search for rentals - both apartments and houses.

All of the areas you describe relative to where you're going to be working would be well over 30 minutes commute. For that matter, some of them could be closer to an hour during rush hour.

As a previous poster suggested, you need to look east, not west. 30 minutes closer to the beaches isn't a big deal, as you're going to be close to a hour from the beaches anyway.

I'm just thinking out loud here, as this is not directed at the OP, but a general observation of folks who are looking at relocating here:

Many people coming into the area want to be "close to the beach". While in theory this might sound nice, in practice, it's a nightmare. Why?

The beaches have tourists year 'round. They can be crowded and messy.

The closer you are to the beach, the higher the property values in many cases.

If you're close to the beach, you're probably in a flood zone. You'll also be in an evacuation zone, too.

Once you get settled in, you'll probably discover that there are a lot of things to do around here besides going to the beach. While it sounds nice and vacation-like, your day-to-day life probably won't integrate well into daily or regular beach visits.

The really nice beaches, like Ana Maria, are roughly an hour away. You're not going to get close to it without sacrificing something else in the way of logistics.

I'm not trying to harsh the OP's buzz here, just wondering how many people who have relocated here thinking they're going to be spending the weekends at the beach really end up doing so....

Related and just as important as living area consideration, Florida business climate is most likely going to be very different than what you are coming from. If he gets the job, I would do whatever I could to get some sort of contract, or promise from the company that included a time period for guaranteed employment, minus any egregious acts of misconduct.

Good point. They should have signs at the border: "Florida is a "Right to Work State".

The should call it a "NO right to work state", or a "Right to be fired state", because you have NO right to work. I've never actually understood why we call it a "RIGHT to work state" when we have NO right to work.

Anyways, the area immediately west of there would put you into some known high-crime neighborhoods near USF like N. 22 St., N. 15th St., etc. (USF is notorious for it's poor neighborhoods including an area we dub "Suitcase City". You'd have to commute from further west to get out of that area.

Re the three posts above, I did not realize that this thread was political. Shame on me.
