Hello! I currently live in Fort Lauderdale, and am interested in moving to the Tampa area in about 8 months, so I'm trying to do as much research as possible before that time comes. First of all, we love Florida, Fort Lauderdale is just too expensive and our budget does not get us much here. Plus there is no community feel here and schools are terrible unless you have enough money to live in the nice areas. I am hoping to find what we're lacking here in the Tampa area. I have visited a few times, but it's obviously different when you live there. My first question is, are there areas outside the city of Tampa that are family friendly, have a small town feel, good schools, and low crime, that are affordable? By affordable, I mean less than 1,600 a month for a 4 bedroom house. I have read about areas such as Riverview and Land O Lakes where there are a few rentals under our budget, but i'm not sure if they would be too far out, as I would be working in the area near Busch Gardens. We do not necessarily need the best of the best, as we are not rich, just somewhere safe where our kids (ages 10 and 13) can get a good education and play outside with friends if they want. I'm also not terribly interested in moving to a cookie cutter HOA community. Thank you in advance for your time.

Well, the "community" feel is missing here too, but this is state wide and not just these areas.

1600 is low for the "good schools" & safety. You may find that in Land O Lakes but then again you'll be commuting on 75 to get to Busch Gardens...

Sorry man, too many crowd this state so it's a "landlord" market! We moved here almost ten years ago from Coral Gables, and still have family down in FT, so I know what you mean about being "expensive" down there...it's not that cheap here either. Eggs were $5.99 at Publix the other day! Unreal...

FYI: Egg prices going up - FOX 13 News

It has NOTHING to do with Florida itself.

High egg prices have nothing to do with Florida, they are high across the country due to the Avian flu breakout

The problem is some people have no idea what is going on outside a 1 mile square of their homes.
They find when something is amiss it must only happen in their range of knowledge, that one square mile or it is the governments fault and they should step in and do something about it. You know, like in those "socialist" countries.

1. Living on Florida my whole life.
2. Living in a lot of communities around Tampa.

Transients aren't looking to make friends here! We have a lot of transients.
Very few communities that are looking to socialize here. We had family in Miami/FT so we didn't notice it as much as we did after we moved out if there....

Not "limited" at all...

You have limited experience since you moved here from elsewhere and don't even live in Tampa, and are retired on top of it! How about we stop comparing apples and oranges!
