I know this isn't a "Tampa" question per se, but it involves Tampa's Brighthouse network.

I have the DVR with them - but every time I turn the tv off - it automatically turns to "Bay News 9" when I turn it on the next time.

Any way at all to make this stop?

There is a brighthouse forum on DSL reports. the other users there will know the answers. If it's a tech issue there is a direct forum where brighthouse staff will work with you to solve it.

You have to change the settings of your TV to any channel you prefer to start the TV when you put the power on.

You can call Bright House and they can walk you through that process but it is not that difficult.

Basically you start by clicking on the settings button on your remote and go from there.

In the Settings (on your remote control) there is an option to choose what channel is your default channel(the one that starts each time you turn your tv on). I had mine set to HGTV. All cable networks have that option.

You can leave the DVR on and just turn off the television. It will start on the channel you were watching last.

instructions will vary slightly depending on your box type but go into the settings menu on the cable box, go to the "display" options (scroll left until you get there) and then select the option "power on channel"

That's the option I referred too but I didn't know to describe it better without having the remote with me but that is exactly how we did it.

Yes I am keeping the internet and phone. Its just me and my wife,,So I am dropping down to 15 mbs. I looked it up and its enough for what we do. So for $70 I get internet and phone. Then Direct tv is $65 a month and next year its $95. I pay almost $200 now through Bright house. So year 1 is $135 a month including taxes. Year 2 is $165 a month including taxes. Year 1 I get the free football package. Year 2 I don't get it. However I would have had to go to a sports bar to watch the Giants play at least 10 times a year. Lastly I get $200 for Sams club. It made no sense to keep Bright house. I will only miss Bay News 9. I will live lol!!!
