When I lived in Tampa in my 20s I lived in Soho/Hyde Park and loved it, now I'm in my 30s, married, no kids, and thinking of moving back. I keep reading about the same neighborhoods over and over--seminole heights, south Tampa, Westchase and Fishhawk.

I keep wondering if there is another neighborhood we are missing. I'm hoping to find something between the nightlife of Soho and the suburbia of everywhere else.

Anyone care to chime in on the atmosphere in some of the lesser known neighborhoods like Virigina Park, Wellswood, Gray Gables or any others that might work for a professional couple?

When we first moved there in 1963 the city line was marked in the street by a yellow line, our house was in the county and the lot to our south was in the city.

Yup! I lived in Egypt lake right behind the gas station on Lois. The house wasn't in the city, but the city limit was right across the street.

I just looked it up online. Doesn't seem like there is much going on in that neighborhood. Am I missing something?

Exactly. Tampa ONLY exists within City Limits, the rest of the area is some unnamed place near the ghetto that is "most of Tampa"

On a related note, it's pretty sad when the best places in a metro area are outside of city limits

Gray gables and Virginia park are your typical south tampa neighborhoods. Gray gables is busier closer to SoHo, Virginia park has lots of young families it's one of the few neighborhoods where you see kids playing on the street often. Wellswood is a working class neighborhood is very diverse. I would look at riverside heights as something that's up and coming, close to everything.

I think most south Tampa residents would disagree with you.
