We home school, so schools aren't so much of an issue.

We should have around $200k to spend on a home - perhaps a bit more if it means a 4br, which we really would rather have. My grande concern is getting into a nice, safe area that's close to your Best Buys, shopping malls, popular parks, etc. Not because I shop a lot, but because I know that these places normally don't build in iffy neighborhoods. And I want a neighborhood where my kids can play outside without me worrying about who else is out there.

What about south of St Pete - across the bay on 275? Is that upper peninsula area good/bad/expensive?

If you want to be near best buy and shopping malls, the trendy areas of st. pete are not where you need to be, lol!!!

Home schooling? How exactly do your kids learn social skills or interact with peers? I know the public schools are not the best anymore, but is completely isolating them the answer?

Although I'd like to find an area with good schools, since they reflect the area they're in, it's not mandatory since we home school.

What about the Seminole area? Is it a safe (for children) and affordable area? I've been told it was.
