Hi, I would like to move to Tampa bay from Long Island. I have an old car and really don't want to drive it down there. I was wondering if anyone has any cheap alternatives for me getting my car and me down there. I would be grateful for any advice. Thank You so much! PS..I don't like to fly.

If you don't want to fly, then I don't see another option. Unless you want to pay to have someone drive/tow your car down there, which would be much more expensive.

Auto train runs between Fairfax, VA (Lorton) and Sanford, FL. Not sure on cost.

Might be best to sell the clunker before you move.

Why do you think the car wont make the trip?, its only a 20 hour run down I-95 then a short hop on I-4 to Tampa.

If you haven't researched how to get yourself and your car down here, have you researched the area?

If you don't want to fly and you don't want to drive the car that distance then the Auto Train is your only alternative.

Thanks everyone. Yeah I might do the Auto Train. I am in a really tough bind. I don't have much money but I know I have to move down to Tampa bay for better job opportunities. I am a newly certified medical assistant but there are not a lot of these jobs on long island and no one is willing hire me with no experience. Its really been tough for me. I figure maybe I would have a better chance in Tampa. I have researched the area. I figure north Pinellas county would be my best to move. Even if I had to rent a cheap mobile home month to month until I can save money and get a better place. There are not a lot of good opportunities here for me on long island and its a very expensive place to live for an average person. Right now I just work Part time at Allstate doing Telemarketing for them. Trying to get leads for the insurance agents. Very tough job. Little pay.

Thanks everyone. I need to leave long island. Not a lot of job opportunities here for a newly certified medical assistant. I am in a bind. I might have to just rough it and go down to Tampa bay. Take the auto train. Maybe I can rent a mobile home month to month in Northern Pinellas County until I save up enough money to get a better place to live. I know for my field I would probably be better off in Tampa bay than Suffolk county on long island. I work PT for Allstate doing telemarketing for them right now. Not making much money. So I am in a kind of desperate situation.
