My husband and I have a 4 month old and recently moved from DC. We've found 2 homes we like...one in Tierra Verde and the other in Redington Shores. My husband works from home and wants to be close to the beach. We only plan to live in the home for 3-5 years. I was wondering which area was more popular or you think the investment is better. Also, which area is more active? We like to go to restaurants or festivals on the weekend. Safety is also important.

I prefer Tierra Verde to Redington Shores. TV is more residential and has better access to restaurants in Pass a Grille and St Pete Beach.

If you have found a place in Tierra Verde, go for it. The views on the water are spectacular.

Will you be commuting anywhere on week days? Tierra Verde is VERY easy access to I275; basically two traffic lights and one is a right turn with its own lanes. Redington you can easily enough get to Park Blvd for certain parts of Pinellas, but other than that, it will be a long and frustrating drive if you have to come and go around rush hours.

I don't know much about Redington from an activity standpoint, but Tierra Verde is absolutely nothing to do. There's basically a couple strip mall type places and a few restaurants, but only one really stands out, Island Grille & Raw Bar. Nothing is walking distance from most homes unless you're looking at a town home along the bayway. You're a quick drive from St Pete Beach / Pass-A-Grille where there's lots to do though. SPB has an arts & crafts type street vendor thing twice a month on weekends on Corey Ave. Also easy access to downtown St Pete where there are a huge number of things to do.

My office is on Tierra Verde and I love the fact that the proximity to I 275 is so easy allowing for quick access to the downtown area of St Pete as well as Tampa and the airport. Redington is going to be a cross county drive with numerous stop lights. Tierra Verde has a great community feel to and hosts an Octoberfest, Fourth of July and Christmas tree lighting celebration where the whole community participates. Much less congested than some of the beach areas but only about a 10 minute drive to St. Pete Beach and 5 minutes to the great Ft. DeSoto beach with nature trails, picnic areas and a super dog beach. Best of luck in your decision and welcome to Florida!
