I just accepted a job in the St Pete area and will be traveling there in the next few weeks to find an apt (I'd like to rent for 3-6 months and then buy if I like the area). My question is about places I should be looking into for living. I'm a single 31 year old guy, so I'm looking for more of a young professionals area with a good night life. I've heard that Clearwater is a place I should definitely checkout. I've heard good things about south Tampa as well.

I'm looking for recommendations for areas I should check out while I'm there. If anyone has recommendations for apt complexes, those would be appreciated as well! Thank you in advance!

^ I second this.

If you are working in St. Pete, what better place than live in downtown St. Pete. You can always buy somewhere else after few months. The other two options would be too much traffic. Please don't come back and tell us I am use to long-commute. Why would anyone want to spend their time on the road when they don't have to. The average commuter spends around 30 min in Tampa Bay. Anything more than that? You would be grumpy on the road because someone who didn't listen our advise is cutting you off to save 0.001 sec.

Welcome to Tampa Bay!

I am in DTSP and love it here. As far as renting for 3-6 months, that may be hard. Most places want a year lease although I have seen some that will do a 7 month. One thing about DTSP area, most of the rental places are privately owned rather then a big apt complex. You won't find them on the typical apt hunting sites, you may want to stay in an extended stay and then drive around looking for 'for rent' signs as many places are not advertised.

Definitely downtown St. Pete! It's a great place for young professionals... Lots to do all within walking distance. Many of the condos can be rented at a minimum of 90 days, although some require a longer lease. There are multi family homes that also have rentals available. The drive from Clearwater can be a bear during rush hour so if your job is in St Pete I'd say stay closer to avoid the traffic. Good luck... You'll love it!

Spent the day down on the marina. Great time. People roaming, enjoying the views, runners, bikers, skaters, DalI Museum filled with folks, city getting ready for the onslaught of Formula One race fans. I've always enjoyed the area.
