Once you get out to the gulf, the water is usually clear and blue or a darker turquoise.

When I visited Miami, I noticed the water color and clearity is very similar to the Gulf side. Anywhere north of the Miami area on the Atlantic side tends to be a dark blue and even gray.
those are my observations as well. ^^^

In the winter with colder water temps the water is much better in the bay. If we have a wet summer the water is almost tea like in color.

I agree. The water is usually clearer and better looking in the dry seasons.

Back in the very wet winter of 97-98 the water was about black in the bay.

The clarity off the Anclote Key sandbar is exceptional. The color of the water is tropical with a turquoise hue. Of course, I always wear polarized glasses and it makes the water look amazing.

Turbidity will cause water to look dark anywhere due to the rain stirring things up.

The point is, under normal circumstances the places in question have mostly lovely, clear water compared to other places.

I think Florida in general beats any other state in water color and clarity except for Hawaii of course.

Siesta Key and Clearwater have really nice beaches, with great weather and sand. The water is more of a teal or green color than clear, though. Even down in Naples and those areas the water isn't really clear, still more of an emerald color. On the Panhandle, though, as well as the Gulf side of the Keys, the water is a beautiful turquoise color.
